We often get asked: "What is the most cost effective skiing holiday for a group or family?"

Well obviously it depends on what you want, how long is a piece of string and all that, but what I would like to discuss is the benefits of self-catering apartments- are they a cost effective alternative to hotels or not?

Well, lets consider 6 adults staying in MyFrenchChalet Apartment La Ginabelle 2i for 7 nights, versus the cost of an average hotel in Chamonix Mont-Blanc over the same period.

So here we will consider the cost of the accomodation, food and drink only and assume that self-catering guests staying in the apartment would like to eat and drink in every night to save money.

Item

Chamonix Hotel Cost for 6 Adults 7 Nights

Chamonix Self-Catering Apartment

Accomodation  £4500 (£750 each per week)  £1200 (£200 each per week)
Food- Eat Out  £840 (£20 per person per night)  N/A
Food- Eat In  N/A  £210 (£5 per person per night)
Drink- Drink Out  £420 (£10 per person per night)  N/A
Drink- In  N/A  £84 (£2 per person per night)

  TOTAL

 £5760

 £1494

So as you can see the cost of Self-Catering is significantly cheaper than staying in hotel accomodation. Obviously there will be nights when you want to eat and drink out, but having the flexibility to choose is a great advantage.

Where ever you choose to stay, we hope you have a great time! If you would like to stay in the beautiful MyFrenchChalet Apartment La Ginabelle 2i (below) please click the apartment photo below to go to the booking page of MyFrenchChalet.com.

Chamonix is situated on the northwest side of the French Alps just a little over one hour from Geneva Airport and is accessed quickly and easily by road.

Chamonix is one the most popular Winter and Summer sports resort towns in France. As the highest European mountain, Mont Blanc holds a special allure for mountain climbers and Chamonix serves as an ideal playground for almost all types of outdoor activity, such as skiing, snowboarding, walking, mountain biking, ice climbing, rock climbing, paragliding, rafting, and canyoning.

Chamonix developed in the valley of the same name, near the point where the French, Swiss, and Italian borders all come together. The valley, about 17.5 km in length, has about 10,000 permanent residents and was originally created by glaciers.

To the northwest rises the rugged Le Brévent (2400 m) and Aiguilles Rouges (3000 m), while the snowclad summit of Mont Blanc towers above the valley from the southeast. At 4810 m, Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the European Alps.

Chamonix is famous for its spectacular cable car up to the Aiguille du Midi (3842 m). Constructed in 1955 it was then the highest cable car in the world. Together with a cable car system going up to the Point Helbronner (3462 m) from Entréves in the Aosta Valley (Italy) it is possible to cross the entire Mont Blanc Massif by cable car.
